Create your own illuminated birdhouse gourd lantern in this hands-on workshop at House of Windsor Studio.

Learn techniques for designing, drilling, carving, sanding, and finishing dried gourds using rotary tools and simple hand processes while creating a sculptural lantern that glows with intricate patterns of light. Participants will explore pattern making, surface design, and finishing methods, with a selection of natural gourds available in different shapes and sizes.

The workshop includes guided use of rotary tools, sanding and polishing techniques, and advice on lighting, hanging, and display. Each participant receives an LED tea light to take home with their finished lantern.

Tea, coffee, and homemade cake are served in the adjoining kitchen space during the workshop, with time to slow down, experiment, and enjoy the process of making.

Beginner friendly, small-group, and all materials included.

About the workshop

In this small-group workshop at Rose’s Windsor studio, guests will transform a dried birdhouse gourd into a softly glowing, atmospheric lantern.

Working within a shared structure, guests will explore their own approach to pattern, perforation, and surface detail. Each piece develops differently, shaped by individual decisions and the rhythm of making.

The session is guided step by step, with time for practice and individual support throughout. Suitable for both beginners and experienced makers.
