Details

Create your own woven egg basket in this slow, hands-on basketry workshop at House of Windsor Studio.

Over three sessions, participants will learn foundational weaving techniques using round rattan core to create a sturdy and functional basket designed for gathering, storing, or displaying eggs and small objects. The workshop focuses on structure, rhythm, tension, and shaping, with guidance through each stage of the weaving process.

Participants will learn how to form the base, build the basket walls, create decorative woven details, and construct an integrated handle. Attention is given to hand skills, material behaviour, and the tactile pleasure of weaving by hand.

Tea, coffee, and homemade cake are served in the adjoining kitchen space during the workshop, creating a relaxed and supportive studio atmosphere.

Beginner friendly, small-group, and all materials included.

About the workshop

In this small-group workshop at Rose Agnew’s Windsor studio, you’ll learn contemporary basket weaving techniques in a calm and welcoming creative environment.

The process is rhythmic, tactile, and deeply satisfying, making it suitable for complete beginners as well as those with existing craft experience. Sessions focus on careful making, material understanding, and creating a functional object designed for everyday use.

Workshops are intentionally intimate to support individual guidance, thoughtful pacing, and a relaxed atmosphere centred around slow craft and hands-on learning.

What you make and Learn

You will create a handwoven egg basket using natural round rattan core, featuring a structured base, woven walls, decorative detailing, and an integrated handle.

Participants will learn:

  • foundational basket weaving techniques

  • radial basket construction

  • shaping and tension control

  • structural weaving methods

  • edge finishing techniques

  • handle construction and attachment

  • finishing and polishing methods

Each basket will be finished with Rose Agnew’s signature Chameleon Wax blend, giving the rattan a rich soft sheen while enhancing the natural texture and colour of the material.

Your finished basket can be used for eggs, produce, bread, storage, foraging, or display.
