Springbok Frolic

Springbok Frolic reimagines a reclaimed South African pre-decimal coin as a luminous miniature painting.

The springbok — poised mid-motion against an intensely coloured landscape — appears suspended somewhere between dream, memory, and ornament. Layers of vivid pink, crimson, emerald, and deep blue transform the coin into a theatrical scene while traces of the original markings remain visible beneath the painted surface.

Set in a substantial sterling silver bezel and finished with a protective coating, the work balances humour, excess, nostalgia, and material history. The ring embraces the pleasure of adornment while also drawing attention to the strange emotional lives of everyday objects once handled, circulated, and forgotten.

Large in scale and intentionally extravagant, Springbok Frolic is designed to be worn as a miniature artwork.
